Au Gold Corp. (TSX-V: AUGC)(OTC: AUGCF) CEO Marc Blythe on The First Two High-Priority Drill Targets at the Havelock Gold-Antimony Project, Victoria, Australia
Gerardo Del Real: This is Gerardo Del Real with Resource Stock Digest. Joining me today is the founder and CEO of Au Gold (TSX-V: AUGC)(OTC: AUGCF), Mr. Marc Blythe. Marc, it's that time. I told you off the record that I couldn't be more excited for the next several months. You've worked really hard behind the scenes, you and the team, to get to the point where the drill will start turning here soon in the coming weeks or so. And you just had some news on the first two high-priority drill targets at the project. And again, I told you off the record, I'm no geologist, but it seems like, it seems like this is as good as it gets pre-drilling with past production, a historical belt. Tell me about these targets. How are you feeling about those?
Marc Blythe: Oh, man, Gerardo, I'm really enjoying this journey and unrolling the information that we've managed to gather for the shareholders and the audience at large. And I just got back from Australia, super excited. We spent quite a bit of time and effort putting together that historical reconstruction. We're really happy with how that turned out. And I know your listeners are very busy people, but if I could just encourage people to go and look, don't read the press release, just look at those long sections that we put in the press release and think about the language that is from these old records that we've managed to compile that is right around these drill targets that we're having a shot at.
It's kind of stunning to me. I mean, normally when you go drilling, you're hoping to find gold. Based on the information in those long sections, we know that there's gold there already. So it's you're kind of shooting in a pretty small barrel and hoping that you can basically see where those trends go with the drill. So yeah, I'm really excited. Some of the best targets I've ever seen that have never been drilled.
Gerardo Del Real: I love that. Keeping with your analogy of the barrel, it seems like it's a barrel with a whole heck of a lot of fish there.
Marc Blythe: The barrel's getting smaller.
Gerardo Del Real: The barrel is getting smaller. And one of the challenges initially was you had so many gold showings and so much historic information and you had so many targets, frankly. And I remember our last conversation I asked you, it's a great problem to have, but a problem nonetheless, being selective and being able to get to what you feel are going to be the highest priority, highest conviction targets. Seems like you have that now.
Marc Blythe: Yeah. I mean, look, when you look at those old records, some of the comments are quite subjective. They didn't do things the same way back in the 1880s and 1890s. They didn't have assay laboratories running samples for them. So what they reported was what they saw. So if they saw visible gold in the face, they would record that. But the one thing that I think is accurate that you can hang your hat on is when they've recorded a width of a vein or a reef, I think that width is probably accurate because measurement of width hasn't changed. So our strategy has been to look for where there's visible gold recorded and the widths are more significant, and that's driving our thesis going forward. And people might look at it and say, "Well, three feet, that's kind of narrow," or, "Two feet, those are kind of narrow targets."
But I think it compares pretty favorably to the sized veins and structures that are being targeted at Sunday Creek, Southern Cross Gold’s project and also at Costerfield with a very successful mining, quite narrow structures. The things that they're looking at are so high grade that additional dilution when you're mining is actually justified. So yeah, really excited.
Gerardo Del Real: What comes next? Obviously the million-dollar question, right? And look, let me be very, very honest and transparent. I always try to be. I'm biased. I'm a shareholder. I own every share that I've ever purchased. So obviously I'm rooting for success here and have high conviction that we're going to get some, but when do you anticipate being able to see a drill start turning?
Marc Blythe: Well look, let me just back up a little bit here. So look, I have my nose on the ground here just going hard for the last bit, but I just want to remind people that we've gone from a concept to an acquisition to completing all the pre-drilling work on the ground to selecting drill targets and being ready to drill in less than a year, which I think is actually pretty phenomenal. And I think our whole plan has been to not duplicate any historic work, to be as efficient as possible with what information we gathered and to use every last bit of information we could ring out of the historical records, which has advanced us to this point. To give you a direct answer on your question regarding drilling, they've had a very wet winter. So some of the drill sites that we want to drill on are a little bit damp.
And as we mentioned in our release there, we still got a couple of outstanding private property permissions and things like that to finalize. And we're in some kind of discussions with drilling contractors as well. We haven't locked down a drill rig yet, but we're pretty hopeful based on the conversations we've had that we'll find the right operator and the pricing will be as expected and get that locked in the short term here. But I would say that my expectation is we'll be drilling in October sometime.
Gerardo Del Real: Well, October's right around the corner.
Marc Blythe: It's September now. We're going to find out. We're going to enter the find out stage real quick here.
Gerardo Del Real: I love the find out stage. I'm a huge boxing fan. I'm a huge sports fan. I'm competitive and the find out stage is my favorite, favorite part of that process. Really excited. Will you be at Beaver Creek this year?
Marc Blythe: I will be there. Yeah. I may be wearing another hat, but I'll definitely be there and I'm looking forward to connecting with some of the shareholders that are already in the company and maybe talking to a few people who might want to get interested in what we're doing as well. We put out news yesterday as you saw with some first priority targets. There's more news and more targets that we'll be talking about the rationale behind in the coming couple of weeks here. And I'm looking forward to explaining those to people in more detail and getting that drill turning.
Gerardo Del Real: There's gold, there's antimony, it's Australia. You have historic workings. We know there's gold there. We know there's antimony there. The question's how much. The market cap folks is $10.5 million. That's not going to last very long. Do with that what you will. I have my position. It's going nowhere. I may add to it. Couldn't be more excited. Marc, thank you so much for coming on. Appreciate it.
Marc Blythe: Awesome. Thanks, Gerardo. Appreciate it.
Gerardo Del Real: All right. Chat soon. See you at Beaver Creek.
Marc Blythe: Awesome.
