AU Gold (TSX-V: AUGC)(OTC: AUGCF) CEO Marc Blythe on Exploration and Upcoming Drilling at Havelock, Victoria
Gerardo Del Real: This is Gerardo Del Real with Resource Stock Digest. Joining me today is the founder and CEO of AU Gold (TSX-V: AUGC)(OTC: AUGCF), Mr. Marc Blythe. Marc, how are you today?
Marc Blythe: Hey, Gerardo. Fantastic. Yeah, thanks very much for connecting.
Gerardo Del Real: Well, listen, it's a little bit overdue. I was at the Rule conference for a week or so. You've been in the field busy completing the surface sampling and beginning, and I say beginning because I know you have a lot of targets. But beginning drill targeting at your project, your gold antimony project that I'm so excited about. And again, let me get it out of the way. I'm biased, I'm a shareholder, haven't sold a share, and could not be more excited about getting a drill program initiated when the time comes.
But look, you got to do the groundwork and you got to make sure that when you have a district scale play, that you target the best stuff early on to give yourself a high chance of success, right? How is that coming along?
Marc Blythe: Oh, that's a fantastic intro there, Gerardo. I appreciate that. Yeah, things are going really well. As you mentioned, I was on the property for about three weeks of really intense work in June there, and just kind of getting back and getting through all the data and stuff that we collected, and working through drill targets and stuff.
And, we put out a press release a couple of weeks ago there, you probably saw where we talked about how we're getting into drill targeting now. And I guess the point I want to make to investors is, we're not just going to keep doing sampling and stuff like that. We are actually getting ready to drill here. We've identified targets that we're excited about.
And I guess that's a big part of the journey here is, literally, in the last 12 months, we've gone from a concept of this would be a great idea to an acquisition. We've acquired the project, and now we've kind of got through all that early stage stuff to, we're ready to point the drill at some of the best targets on this property.
Gerardo Del Real: Excellent. I know it's been raining down there more than typical, but I also know that you were in discussions as of a couple of weeks ago with the drill contractors. How is that coming along?
Marc Blythe: It's a little bit tough actually, drill contractors. They're a little bit coy, and there's definitely lots of demand from companies down there. Some of the bigger operators, Southern Cross, for example, I think they have like a dozen drill rigs there now, and their Costerfield are doing their own drilling at Alkane. And obviously the Agnico Eagle guys are drilling. There's a bunch of drilling going on down there.
So, locking down a drill is still a key part of our plan. We're trying to find a drilling company that will work with us the way we like to work. So yeah, we've looked at a few and talked to a couple and yeah, we're not quite there yet. We haven't quite locked one down. But as it comes back to the weather, I haven't seen it so wet down there. It's very green. There's water running over the top of dams, water storage dams and stuff.
But the weird thing is when you talk to the ranchers and farmers and stuff, they're talking about El Nino and how it's going to be a really dry summer, and they're all worried about what's going to happen in forest fires and stuff. So it's an odd setup really. There's so much water down there. Everything is wet.
Gerardo Del Real: Interesting. How has the sampling gone? I know we're still waiting on some assays there that are going to help define those drill targets. How's that coming along?
Marc Blythe: Look, I would say it's gone really well. I mean, when you go into a district like this, there's quartz everywhere. So quartz isn't really a very good indicator of what you're looking for. And if you read the historic reports, there's actually five different types of quartz. I won't get into the details of it, but it takes you a little while to kind of get your eye in on which types of quartz are the interesting types.
Actually have bedding quartz, which you see a lot of quartz, but it's the wrong quartz. It's not what you're looking for. It's laid down as part of the bedding. It's not the gold bearing kind of quartz that you're looking for. But once you do get tuned in, you start really recognizing these different types of quartz, and that's an important kind of assessment to be able to make, because this is the right kind of quartz. These are the things we're looking for and then putting rocks in the bag, and hopefully we'll get some more high grade samples from the work we've been doing.
Most of that sampling work is off-trend on targets that aren't on the Shaw-McFarlane trend, with a few exceptions. We've managed to get access to a couple of the dumps there and look at things that are on-trend. But a lot of the areas of historic mining on the Shaw-McFarlane trend were actually turned into farmland. So, all the clues are basically gone, because it's been leveled and grassed over and stuff. But yeah, we've been doing what we can with the prospecting and sampling. I'm looking forward to having some decent numbers out of that.
Gerardo Del Real: Good. Well, I'm looking forward to getting them. So it sounds like next steps are, more defining of the drill targets, getting that honed down, and then getting ready for hopefully some drilling here in Q3, correct?
Marc Blythe: For sure. Yeah. I guess the one thing we haven't talked about here I should talk about is that drill targeting on the Shaw-McFarlane trend where there isn't a lot of clues. I cannot overemphasize how important the historical reconstructive work that we did has been. We've got this phenomenal resource now, of long sections and cross-sections and data that guide us as to where the best results were obtained on that Shaw-McFarlane trend. And just to kind of say that that's useful is kind of an understatement.
If you know where the highest grade or the greatest widths are in a mine, then you know exactly where you should focus with the drill. So yeah, I'm much more confident now that this whole concept is coming together than I was 12 months ago.
Gerardo Del Real: Excellent. Excellent. Well, look, I could not be more excited. Gold is holding that $4,000 mark. It's actually sitting there above $4,100. Silver's looking good. The debt levels aren't being addressed. And yeah, by the way, China still is flexing its critical metals muscles. So having that antimony as another potential commodity that comes out of this program is important to me as a shareholder. Anything else to add to that, Mark?
Marc Blythe: No, look, I think you kind of hit the nail on the head there. We're kind of in a phase now where we're just talking to private landowners and figuring out permissions for drilling. We're getting ready. We're waiting for the weather to be better, conditions to be a bit drier, and working through the prospects that we have that we want to drill, and figuring out which ones have the greatest chance of success for our shareholders.
And I'm excited actually. There's more targets here than I thought there would be to go and drill test. So that's really good news. And just figuring out which one's the highest priority, which ones have the best chance of success for us to go and drill. So it's exciting times and looking forward to the drilling.
Gerardo Del Real: I couldn't be more excited. Marc, thank you so much. Appreciate it.
Marc Blythe: Thanks, Gerardo.
