Aldebaran Resources Inc. (TSX-V: ALDE)(OTCQX: ADBRF) — currently trading around C$2.85 per share in a near-record copper market — has reported another round of long copper-gold intercepts from its flagship Altar copper-gold project in San Juan, Argentina.
The latest results come from six holes completed as part of ALDE’s 2025–26 infill and geotechnical drill program, which is helping increase confidence in an already substantial resource ahead of an updated mineral resource estimate (MRE) expected next month.
Highlights include:
- Hole ALD-26-267: 1,257.30 meters at 0.66% copper equivalent (CuEq), including 513 meters at 1.06% CuEq and 214 meters at 1.57% CuEq
- Hole ALD-26-261: 1,323.20 meters at 0.50% CuEq, including 802.20 meters at 0.64% CuEq
- Hole ALD-25-262: 939.30 meters at 0.58% CuEq, including 763.30 meters at 0.65% CuEq
Those results come from Altar in mining-friendly San Juan Province, an emerging copper development district attracting significant investment from major mining companies.

Aldebaran Resources CEO John Black — whom you’ll hear from next in our exclusive interview — commented on the latest results and upcoming milestones via press release:
“Today’s drill results are a reminder of the impressive scale of Altar’s high-grade cores and the significant size of the project. Looking ahead, the upcoming mineral resource estimate, expected in October of this year, will establish the foundation for the pre-feasibility study expected in Q2/Q3 2027.”
The focus now is on further de-risking the resource-stage project on the way to pre-feasibility.
Chief Geological Officer Kevin B. Heather added:
“Many of these reported holes were oriented drill holes designed for geotechnical purposes; however, they were also designed to provide essential infill data for resource category conversion from Inferred to Indicated and Measured for the upcoming mineral resource estimate. The oriented drill holes also allow us to better understand and constrain the orientations in 3D-space of lithological contacts, faults, fractures, and veins; all of which enhance our geological model for the upcoming resource estimate and form the basis for both the open pit and potential underground designs in the PFS mine plan.”
And Black and Heather have been down this road before.
The pair were part of the team behind Antares Minerals, which was ultimately acquired by First Quantum Minerals for C$650 million after advancing the Haquira copper project in Peru. Black helped acquire Haquira and negotiate the eventual sale, while Heather led the exploration that resulted in the discovery of the high-grade Haquira East deposit.
What they’re advancing today at Altar is on an entirely different scale.
Altar ranks among the world’s largest undeveloped copper projects, hosting 22.01 billion pounds of copper in the Measured & Indicated category plus another 9.83 billion pounds Inferred. The project also hosts significant gold and silver resources.
That resource already comes with compelling economics: A 2025 PEA outlines an after-tax US$2.0 billion NPV(8%) and 20.5% IRR using base-case prices of just US$4.35/lb copper and US$2,500/oz gold. Of course, copper is now well above US$6/lb and gold is well north of US$4K/oz.

Aldebaran also recently completed the spinout and public listing of Centauri Minerals (TSX-V: CENT), giving Aldebaran shareholders direct exposure to the new company while allowing the team to sharpen its focus on advancing Altar.
And there is plenty to watch at Altar from here.
In addition to the updated MRE due next month, Aldebaran is targeting a PFS for mid-2027 — milestones that arrive in what looks to be a precious and base metals bull market with legs.
Next, as promised, our own Gerardo Del Real of Junior Resource Monthly caught up with Aldebaran Resources CEO John Black to discuss Altar and what comes next. Please enjoy!
