Almadex CEO talks gold-rich porphyry discovery at El Cobre

VANCOUVER — President and CEO Morgan Poliquin and the team at Almadex Minerals (TSXV: AMZ; US-OTC: AXDDF) are among the preeminent mineral explorers in eastern Mexico, and it appears they have another potentially impressive discovery emerging at the drill bit.

The company’s attention is now locked on the El Cobre “gold-rich porphyry” discovery roughly 75 km due northwest of the major port city of Veracruz, which generated some promising drill intercepts earlier this year.

The company emerged as a spin-out entity from Almaden Minerals (TSX: AMM; NYSE-MKT: AAU) with around twenty properties and twenty royalties. The corporate restructuring was meant to separate a long-standing exploration story from a new-found development narrative at the multi-million ounce Ixtaca silver-gold project 95 km due north of Puebla city. The asset is quickly advancing towards a prefeasibility study, and could have its permits by early 2018.

“Almaden is now really a single-asset development vehicle, and there’s clearly an outcome where Ixtaca is acquired by someone else,” Poliquin explained during an interview.
