Contango Silver & Gold (TSX: CTGO)(NYSE American: CTGO) — currently trading around C$27 per share in a strong precious metals market — has kicked off September with another round of high-grade gold results from its Lucky Shot project in Alaska’s historic Willow Mining District.
Initial results from the 2026 surface drill program include:
- 2.45 meters at 86.05 g/t gold, including 0.80 meters at 244.30 g/t gold
- 0.50 meters at 81.57 g/t gold
- Visible gold in five of the seven holes reported
Contango has now completed approximately 5,700 meters in 27 holes, representing roughly 93% of the planned 6,000-meter program, with additional assays pending.
Underground development is also advancing with the recently completed West Drift Extension encountering two previously unmodeled mineralized vein structures.
Contango Silver & Gold CEO Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse — a professional geologist with more than 40 years of mining-industry experience and the founder and former CEO of NOVAGOLD — commented on the results via press release:
“These initial surface drill results validate our systematic approach to defining the Coleman vein geometry, even as our underground crews push forward on developing the access needed for our next underground drilling phase. Hitting 2.5 meters of nearly 3 ounce per tonne high-grade gold in LSS26016-along with multiple mineralized intercepts from Pad C-adds critical data that sharpens our geologic model. Furthermore, extending the West Drift and intercepting additional high-grade KM-style vein structures gives us immediate, high-priority targets that we can now drill efficiently from underground.”
Van Nieuwenhuyse is joined by President & Director Shawn Khunkhun — whom you’ll hear from next in our exclusive interview — who brings more than 20 years of capital-markets and mining-sector experience, and VP Exploration Dave Larimer, a former Pogo Gold Mine Chief Exploration Geologist and Teck Resources Principal Geologist with extensive experience operating in Alaska.
Today’s Lucky Shot results are certainly worth paying attention to but they represent only one piece of a much larger story taking shape at Contango.

The foundation is Manh Choh, Contango’s 30%-owned producing gold mine in Alaska, with the remaining 70% owned by operator Kinross Gold.
Contango is guiding for 40,000 to 45,000 ounces of full-year 2026 gold production, increasing to 75,000 to 80,000 ounces in 2027 as mining transitions into the higher-grade South Pit.
That production provides the financial foundation for a development pipeline built around high-grade projects in Alaska and British Columbia.
Lucky Shot is the most immediate growth opportunity, with the past-producing, fully permitted Alaska project being advanced toward a Feasibility Study in the first half of 2027.
Beyond Lucky Shot, Contango is advancing the Kitsault Valley project in British Columbia’s Golden Triangle where an extensive 2026 drill campaign is underway ahead of an updated resource estimate, as well as the high-grade Johnson Tract Project in Alaska, where permitting and infrastructure work are advancing.
The strategy is straightforward: Use production and cash flow from Manh Choh to help fund the next generation of high-grade North American projects with the longer-term goal of building toward annual production exceeding 200,000 ounces of gold and 5 million ounces of silver.

Near-term catalysts include:
- Additional Lucky Shot assays
- Updated Kitsault Valley resource
- Manh Choh production ramp
- Lucky Shot Feasibility Study
- Continued Johnson Tract advancement
With gold trading above US$4,500/oz and silver north of US$65/oz, the timing is spot on for Contango as it advances its growing North American precious metals portfolio.
As promised, our own Gerardo Del Real of Junior Resource Monthly caught up with Contango Silver & Gold president Shawn Khunkhun to discuss the company’s growing production profile and the strategy behind its ambitious plans for gold and silver growth. Please enjoy!
