Metals Monday: Renewed Interest and Quiet Progress

Commodity Callout

While all eyes are on gold and silver, lithium and uranium continued their quiet progress.

Metal Price Update

Gold — Gold held in the range that it climbed to in the week prior, spending much of the week around $4430 per ounce. With a change in direction regarding Fed interest rate policy, gold has reason to shine, even in the face of factors like rising oil prices. Now is the time to continue adding on.

Silver — Silver saw a bit more volatility than gold, having seen some gains early in the week before inflation news forced it to give those gains back. It ended up around $64.83 per ounce, about where it ended the previous week. So it may be testing a new floor and investors should keep adding.

Copper — Copper continued holding its range around $6.60. There’s not much to say about it other than that the long-term thesis remains bullish and investors shouldn’t overlook it in favor of other commodities.

Lithium Carbonate — Lithium prices continued to rise over the course of the week. They started around $21,400 per metric ton and ended the week around $22,400. Growing consumption around the world, especially in stationary storage, will continue influencing prices and storage demand will likely surpass electric vehicle demand.

Uranium — Uranium prices climbed, starting around $86.80 per pound and ending just shy of $87.50. Unlike the sudden, explosive uptrends that gold has been undergoing, uranium’s has been a slow and steady climb. Its fundamentals remain strong and it should continue to have a place in your investment strategy.

Company Callout

North Shore Uranium (TSX-V: NSU)(OTC: NSURF) is a name to consider for your portfolio as the uranium market improves and starts garnering more attention from investors.

The company recently announced the completion of Phase 1 of its first drill program at Rio Puerco in New Mexico’s historic Grants Uranium District. This program was the first significant drilling in the area since the 1970s and it validated historical work done by a previous operator. Thirteen holes were drilled over 2,828 meters and the hope is that the results will confirm historical grades and continuity.

If that ends up being the case, the company will have a scalable system on its hands in a time when investor interest in the underlying asset is climbing. This creates a rare opportunity to get ahead of the larger investment crowd while the company and market watchers wait for the results to come in.

Nick talks about North Shore, its management, and what the company looks to achieve in the latest episode of Bizarro World Live, which you can listen to by clicking here.

It’s also a pick in his Underground Alpha portfolio. If you want to learn more about the company and its assets, you can do that by clicking here.
