Commodity Callout
Uranium continues a steady march upward as demand becomes more apparent to the market.
Metal Price Update
Gold — Inflation-related news drove the price of gold upward and it ended the week just shy of $4200 per ounce. That could be its ceiling in the short term, but the overarching economic environment continues to encourage a long-term rise in its value.
Silver — Silver didn’t fare as well as gold, as its price fell over the course of the week to end around $57 per ounce. Silver may be searching for a new floor before the catalyst that pushes it back toward bull territory arrives.
Copper — Copper’s resilience over the past few months wavered somewhat as its price fell to around $6.56 per pound. Any pain like this is temporary, as demand fundamentals remain strong and traders should look at instances like this as a chance to buy at a discount.
Lithium Carbonate — Lithium’s troubles continued, with a big slide from $17,500 per metric ton to just above $15,200. Demand for batteries has waned, even amid rising energy prices because of the war, and traders are now wondering where the floor might be.
Uranium — Uranium saw slight upward movement, going from just under $90 per pound to around $90.10. The thesis that the market is starting to catch on to uranium’s growing demand continues to be supported and you should continue adding to your portfolio.
Company Callout
One mining name that you should consider prioritizing for your portfolio is Perpetua Resources (NASDAQ: PPTA)(TSX: PPTA).
Its Stibnite gold project, located in Idaho’s historic Stibnite Mining District, has the permits and the financing, and is in the beginning stages of construction. The gold asset is complemented by a supply of antimony, which is a critical metal the government is desperate to get its hands on at a time when it is in short supply and much of that supply is controlled by China.
Those two factors alone put the company in the category of mining projects that rightfully should be a buyout target for bigger players. It’s Gerardo’s belief that this will happen in time, but only at much higher prices. It’s why he considers it to be one of his core picks in Junior Resource Monthly and why he continues to tell anyone who will listen that it should be part of their commodity investment strategy.
