Q2 Metals Receives Positive Metallurgical Results at Cisco Lithium Project

Q2 Metals Corp. (TSX-V: QTWO)(OTC: QUEXF) — currently trading around C$0.90 per share — has released positive initial metallurgical test work results from its flagship Cisco lithium exploration project in James Bay, Quebec, where Phase-2 drilling is underway.

The pegmatite samples used in the metallurgical test work were derived from drill core from last year’s program and were analyzed via X-ray diffraction (XRD) for quantitative modal mineralogy with results confirming:

  • Spodumene is the primary lithium-bearing mineral within all pegmatite samples submitted
  • No petalite, lepidolite, amblygonite, or lithium-phosphate minerals were present within a detection threshold above 1% in any samples tested
  • Spodumene content averaged 17% within sample results ranging between 6% and 39%

The image below shows the drill-hole locations of the mineralogical samples taken at the flagship property.

Q2 Metals VP of Exploration Neil McCallum — whom you’re about to hear from directly in our exclusive interview coming right up — commented on the positive metallurgical test results via press release:

“Having spodumene as the only primary lithium-bearing mineral verified with a high-precision method like XRD is an important milestone for the Cisco Project, verifying our core observations of coarse-grained spodumene. We will be conducting further metallurgical testing of the mineralized zone at the Project to understand its amenability to HLS and DMS flowsheet work.”

As noted, next steps will include testing the mineralogy for amenability to Heavy Liquid Separation (HLS) and Dense Media Separation (DMS) recovery methodologies with the aim of producing a spodumene concentrate above 6% lithium oxide (Li2O) with low iron content at a maximum lithium recovery.

Concurrently, a multi-rig drill program targeting 6,000 to 8,000 meters is underway at Cisco designed as a follow-up to last year’s Phase-1 program, which produced a number of significant spodumene-pegmative intervals.

The company is primarily utilizing step-outs at 200 and 400 meters apart to gain a better understanding of the extent of spodumene-pegmatite mineralization delineated to-date at Cisco and to identify potential additional parallel pegmatite zones.

Importantly, only about 25% of the total surface showing area at Cisco has been drill-tested to-date.

Moreover, following the release of high-grade lithium assays from Phase-1, the Q2 Metals team immediately went out and expanded the Cisco property by an additional 545 mineral claims, at a 100% interest, primarily to the south of the original high-grade discovery zone.

That expansion effectively tripled the size of the Cisco land package, bringing it to a total of 767 contiguous mineral claims spanning nearly 40,000 hectares.

With Phase-2 drilling underway in an expansive, target-rich environment, our own Gerardo Del Real of Junior Resource Monthly caught up with Q2 Metals VP of Exploration Neil McCallum to go over the positive metallurgy and drilling progress at Cisco. Please enjoy!
